Camp Barnabas

Camp Barnabas is a Christian summer camp founded in 1994 with a belief that there should be a fully accessible summer camp for individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. It stems from an idea based on Lauren Hauschild’s personal experiences at a camp after losing her leg from cancer, but still wanting to attend and enjoy all of the camp activities. She imagined, “Everyone would be in a wheelchair or on crutches. No one would care that your hair was missing from chemo. It would be easy for anyone to do all of the activities of camp. Cancer wouldn’t isolate you—it would unite you—and when you came there, you would be loved.”
“Every program and activity is adapted, ensuring that every Camper, regardless of ability or age, can fully participate. Each week is geared to a specific age range and a set of diagnoses so that each Camper is in a cabin with others similar to themselves. Campers are paired with trained student volunteers (Counselors) from across the country so they can get the full care and support they need. [Camp Banabas] provide[s] an on-site medical facility staffed with compassionate nurses and dedicated doctors, ready to offer not just medical care, but a nurturing and supportive environment.” For more information on Camp Barnabas’s mission and values, please visit their website.
Creating accessible spaces for all people is one of our passions and Life Floor is proud to surface three areas of the pool amenity including two splash pads and the transition for the zero-depth entry. These inclusive amenities provide more play value for campers with traction to prevent slips and cushioning to protect falls that keeps the fun going all day long.
A sincere thank you to Sunbelt Pools for leading this project and coordinating with multiple industry partners with the goal to give Camp Barnabas's pool new life.
