Sugarworld Adventure Park: Surface Design that Lasts

Located just south of Cairns, Queensland, Edmonton’s Sugarworld Adventure Park is one of the community’s favorite spots to cool off and connect with wildlife. With a failing pour-in-place surface in the water park and an expensive cycle of refurbishment, the Cairns Regional Council decided to permanently replace the 800m² area in August 2019 with Life Floor.

Fun fact: the park is also home to free-roaming peacocks and acres of fruit orchards!

The Cairns Council embraced the retrofit as an opportunity to create an entirely new visual experience for the park. Creating a dynamic pattern in squares and triangles in hues of blue, the Life Floor Studio created a design that could be enjoyed from the top of the tallest towers to the bottom of the slides.

Installed in ⅜” (10mm) thickness and Ripple 2.0 texture (a P5 rating under AS4586:2013 Wet Pendulum Test), the surface now actively reduces injuries while promoting play in the community for members of all ages and abilities.

We are really pleased with the way Life Floor has immediately transformed the look of Sugarworld. We also really love how our guests enjoy playing on it.

Installed by Grassports Australia, Managing Director Brenden Dawson was pleased with their first installation as a certified Life Floor installation partner and excited about the product’s safety features.

As soon as we were made aware of Life Floor, we recognized the opportunity. For a long time, soft-fall surfacing has been a real challenge. Life Floor offers an exciting alternative to traditional coverings where slip resistance and impact attenuation is vital for kids’ safety.
